Sam and Lizzie Goodwin

Overview

Sam and Lizzie Goodwin have been serving in Munich, Germany along with their three girls: Katie (Jul’06), Sophie (Oct’07), and Molly (Jan’14) since the end of 2012. Sam is a teaching elder in the PCA, and he and Lizzie are involved with church planting in three different spheres: Locally in Munich, in the German speaking world, and in Europe at large.

Locally – Assisting local church planting efforts to see Reformed and Gospel centered churches planted in the Munich area. This involves periodically helping at the local seminary, assisting with pastoral interns, leading in worship, discipling and caring for the men and women in our church and neighborhood, and being available to encourage and help national church planters. Along with that Sam is the MTW team leader in Munich, which gives him the additional responsibilities of caring for the team there, as well as recruiting more pastors, teachers, and short term missionaries to serve alongside them.

German-speaking world – The team in Munich also has a heart to prepare and send missionaries out into the German-speaking world. Munich is working to become an “incubating” city, training MTW missionaries (language, culture, etc) and sending them out to partner with pastors and German speaking nationals to plant Reformed and Covenantal churches throughout Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Europe at large – Sam and Lizzie serve as the MTW Europe Member Care Coordinator/Associate. They coordinate and provide spiritual, emotional, and relational care for the MTW missionaries/church planters throughout Europe. The goal of this care is help MTW missionaries not only to survive in their respective fields, but to thrive. Losing missionaries and church planters caries a great cost, both personal and monetary…to the churches and supporters, the fields on which they served, and to the missionaries themselves. Their work in Member Care is to ensure that those serving on the front lines are healthy and equipped to handle the battles that lie ahead.

Please pray for Sam and Lizzie as they serve in these roles from the US for this year and next. Due to family and state of life realities they have extended their HMA (home ministry assignment) to a second year. This is quite common in missionary life, and means much more zoom-ministry than when they are in Germany. Pray for them as they and their girls continue to adjust to life and school and relationships in the US, while also maintaining relationships in Germany.
